Vegan Shawarma

With the right Middle Eastern spices, you can make authentic-tasting shawarma at home with your favorite meatless ingredients.

 

(Serves 2)

For the shawarma:
1 package (250 grams) seitan, sliced very thin
1 medium onion, sliced
1 large portabella mushroom, sliced
2 Tbs. olive oil
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. Whole Spice Shawarma Spice Mix
1/4 tsp. black pepper

For the sandwiches:
Lavash bread, tortilla or other flatbread
Hummus
Harissa paste or other spicy condiment
Fresh vegetable salad

Heat olive oil in a nonstick pan over high heat.
Add sliced onion and sauté until crispy and brown.
Add sliced seitan and sliced mushroom and sauté for about 7 minutes.
Add salt, Shawarma Spice Mix and black pepper.

 

 To serve:
Heat lavash bread or tortilla and spread with hummus and a touch of harissa paste or other spicy sauce.
Layer on shawarma and fresh veggie salad.
Roll and eat warm.
