California Proposition 65 (Prop 65) Notice

California’s Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide warnings about exposure to certain chemicals that may cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. These chemicals can be found naturally in the environment, the soil, and in agricultural products grown around the world.

At Whole Spice, we source high-quality herbs, spices, and blends from many regions. Some spices may contain trace amounts of naturally occurring heavy metals, such as:

  • Lead
  • Cadmium
  • Arsenic
  • Other soil-based mineral contaminants

These elements are commonly found in agricultural soils worldwide. Because spices are natural plant products grown in soil, trace levels can be present even when grown organically or following good agricultural practices.

Why is this warning required?

California sets extremely strict “safe harbor” limits for certain chemicals. Even very small, naturally occurring amounts of minerals in spice plants may exceed California’s reporting thresholds.

This does not mean our spices are unsafe to consume.

It simply means California requires a warning when certain naturally occurring elements may be present, even in trace amounts.
