Middle Eastern Flatbread with Za'atar

Middle Eastern Flatbread with Za'atar

Ingredients:

4 cups of white flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon yeast

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 1/2 cups of warm water

Za'atar mix:

4 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons Za'atar Spice Blend

Mix in a bowl flour and salt. In a small container mix yeast, sugar, and 2 tablespoons of water. Wait 5 minutes than add yeast mixture to the flour. Lastly, add the 2 tablespoons of olive oil and slowly add warm water as you knead the dough.

Let the dough rise for about 2 hours until double the size.

When the dough has risen grease a large oven pan with a small amount of butter. Roll the dough until flat and cover the oven pan (not too thin). Mix together the olive oil and Za'atar Spice Blend; use brush to cover the bread with the mixture.

Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes.

You can add more olive oil and Za'atar Spice Blend when bread is ready to make it moist.

For a delicious Mediterranean sandwich:

Use any soft cheese you like: feta, goat, cream cheese along with slices of fresh cucumber and tomatoes. Add Kalamata olives and season with a little salt, Za'atar Spice Blend and olive oil.
