Alaea Hawaiian Sea Salt
Ingredients: Sea salt, Red Alaea Clay
Description: Also called Hiwa Kai, these salt crystals are enriched with a natural mineral called “alae” – a volcanic baked red clay that gives the salt its distinctive red color. It has a subtle earthy flavor and adds an grainy texture to food. Alaea Hawaiian sea salt is harvested from salt farms on the smallest Hawaiian island of Molokai. There is virtually little to no industry on this tiny island, which translates into clean water, soil and air — making Alaea sea salt one of the purest and finest of all sea salts. This sea salt is used in most of the traditional Hawaiian dishes, such as Kalua pig and Hawaiian jerky; it works extremely well with beef and pork dishes.
