In 2008, we opened our Whole Spice retail store in the Oxbow Public Market. Napa’s premier gourmet marketplace was brand new then, and we were one of the very first stores there.

The first customers to discover us were our new Napa Valley neighbors, who quickly made us feel at home in this culinary community. Chefs, winemakers and home cooks became our friends, sharing cooking inspirations and spreading the word about our shop — the only one of its kind in northern California.

Before long, Whole Spice became an essential destination for food-loving locals and visitors alike. People come to us from all over the San Francisco Bay Area and around the world, in search of fresh spices and new discoveries, and they always leave happy and excited about their purchases.

Our shop, with its turmeric-colored walls, looks very much the same today as when we opened in 2008. We now stock more than 500 spices, herbs, sugars and salts, all displayed in glass jars and available for sampling. Our helpful staff is knowledgeable, but never overbearing.

We always give our customers a warm Whole Spice welcome, in the tradi-tion of hospitality we learned from our parents. And on most days, you’ll find freshly-prepared herb and spice dips free for sampling with bread. (Try the spicy Zhug!)

At the store, we also offer cooking programs with recipes from international cuisines. We enjoy sharing what we’ve learned about how to bring the flavors of the world to our own home cooking and baking. To be notified of upcoming classes, sign up for our email list.
